From 2013 to 2015, pop-star Justin Timberlake realized his most complex tour, resulting in 134 shows that crisscrossed the globe and is now regarded as his most successful tour to date.

Timberlake’s vision was a seamless blending of 3D environments with the lighting, video, and stage set. VYV’s PHOTON was a clear choice to meet these challenges and bring this vision to life. The tour featured 15 PHOTON media servers (one control and two backups) to power the uncompressed video playback at nearly 16 megapixels (8,000 X 1,920).

PHOTON was able to calibrate all 30 projectors in less than 30 minutes, which is key when it comes to setting up a touring show. PHOTON then managed the playback across all the projectors (22 on the wall, eight to cover the roof) without breaking a sweat.

PHOTON bridged the gap between projection and a live feed, allowing both to be integrated simultaneously. Using the motion tracking system, PHOTON projected the 3D mapping, video and live feed effects onto the art installation itself as a projection surface, conforming the video projection to the unique contours of its shape.
